The South West Interfaith Team presented an educational Speakers' Forum on Sunday, April 15th at Faith United Methodist Church in Orland Park. This event was co-sponsored by the Lutheran School of Theology at Chicago's CCME (A Center of Christian-Muslim Engagement for Peace and Justice) and was part of their annual Sacred Texts Conference. The three speakers presented the Christian, Jewish and Muslim perspectives on the topic of "Love of God, Love of Neighbor -- What Do Our Scriptures Say?" The speakers are Safaa Zarzour -- current Secretary General of the Islamic Society of North America (ISNA), William Droel -- Pastoral Associate at Sacred Heart in Church Palos Hills / director of campus ministry at Moraine Valley Community College, and Dr. Victor A. Mirelman, rabbi of West Suburban Temple Har Zion since 1990. The speakers will present their perspectives on their understanding of how sacred scriptures address the love of God and the love of neighbor and offer a reflection on how this makes a difference in the lives of believers and communities today. A Question & Answer session followed the three presentations.
