A "heart-throb" of a different nature, Ziad believes in the need to collaborate across the disciplines for true creativity to materialize. His talk is a powerful message endorsing our ability to reinvent ourselves and achieve our own personal quests for passion. These talks were recorded at the Lebanese American University in Beirut on September 29, 2012 as part of the first independently organized live TEDxLAU event under the theme of "Unleash Your Passions". About the speaker: Ziad completed a BE in Computer Engineering from LAU and worked as a telecom engineer at MTC Touch. Later, he received a Fulbright Scholarship to pursue Masters studies at the Ohio State University, USA. In 2009, Ziad co-founded O2 Insights, a high-tech biomedical venture based in Columbus, Ohio, USA. Ziad won the Deloitte-Fisher Business Plan Competition (Awarded $ 85000) and helped raise around $ 1M in funds for the venture. O2 Insights was later acquired by Systagenix in 2012 through a multi-million dollar acquisition deal. In 2010, Ziad returned to Lebanon to work on yet another startup, CardioDiagnostics. CardioDiagnostics is based on a core life-saving technology that he developed during his research time, the technology turned a runner up in Stars of Science, the reality TV show that is the Arab equivalent of American Inventor, and won the prestigious Global Innovation through Science and Technology Award.
