Save-A-Friend is a community action group with a mission to help families in our community affected by drug addiction. There are many families in our community suffering in shame and silence. We provide not only a monthly support group, but also bring together resources to help prevent drug abuse. Save A Friend Live Your Life Free is our logo. Our tee-shirt campaign has been an affective tool to help the kids not using drugs to make a statement to their peers. We funded this through our generous business community and are continuing to raise funds to spread this to all the area schools and make this a County wide program. Rowan Center for Addiction Studies and Partnership for a Drug Free New Jersey provide our educational materials, which are available at each support group meeting. We will on occasion have speakers who deal with addiction come and educate and share their experiences. Subhanallah, this program was one of the best events I've ever attended. FOR THOSE INTERESTED IN DOING DA'WAH: Kamal El Mekki did a series called how to give shahada in 10 minutes which is very helpful. The Sweat Therapy Sauna was designed specifically for group work. The design was influenced by the Finnish Sauna, the American Indian Sweat Lodge, and modern technology. Like a common sauna, it was built with conventional wood-framed construction with insulation between vertical studs, the interior lined with cedar walls and benches. It is heated with an electric heater. Like an American Indian sweat lodge, the Sweat Therapy Sauna allows people to sit in a circle to promote group cohesion. The heating element is placed in the center. It is windowless to control lighting to promote intimacy and introspection and contains a stereo system to make use of the therapeutic benefits of music. The dimensions of the Sweat Therapy Sauna are 10 x 10 x 7 and can accommodate about 12 people. The 15 KW electric heater is a stainless steel floor model purchased from Finlandia Sauna. Four recessed ceiling lights operate on a dimmer switch. The stereo is a waterproof marine audio system that includes an amplifier, MP3 connector, and four speakers purchased from Poly-Planar. A shower is installed on the outside of the right front wall. This project was a long time in the planning.
