We aimed to illuminate how the often tacit assumptions about the "normal," "healthy," and "acceptable" body lead to policies which are, at their core, unjust. Didier Fassin, MD, MPH, is James D. Wolfensohn Professor of the School of Social Science at the Institute for Advanced Study as well as the Director of Studies at the Ecole des Hautes Etudes en Sciences Sociales in Paris. His keynote addressed, "The Trace: Violence, Truth, and the Politics of the Body." President of The New School, David Van Zandt, introduced him and engaged him in Q&A with the audience.
