Kitchen Table Electronics Repair: Sherwood RX-5502 Multi-Zone Stereo Receiver
Kitchen Table Electronics Repair: Sherwood RX-5502 Multi-Zone Stereo Receiver Video Clips. Duration : 13.03 Mins.
I've been a big fan of the Sherwood RX-410x series of stereo receivers. My own units have proven reliable, but reports of trouble are out there and more frequent than they ought to be. I've wanted to know what goes wrong with these units, so I picked up a broken RX-5502 multi-zone receiver. Its circuitry differs somewhat from the RX-4105 or 4109 series, but the same basic design is used for power and preamplifier circuits. Sherwood claims a total output power (with all speakers going) rating of some 400 watts. They are dreaming! As found, this receiver would just shut down a few seconds after being powered up, followed by a blinking standby LED. Normally this indicates a power amplifier or power transistor fault, yet I did not think such a fault existed here. Watch and see how I did some troubleshooting and arrived at the cause of the problem. I'm not sure it's totally fixed yet, as the new regulator seems to be running awfully hot. I'll have to look into that some more, but it did survive running for several hours tonight. Now all I have to do is find some screws to replace the ones I didn't get with the unit and straighten out the cover a little bit. There are some interesting features that were never realized in this unit. When sold as a TEAC AG-980, this unit gains an optional serial port and some other connections. Sherwood's designer clearly thought about adding support to connect an iPod and support for DAB broadcast decoding. (You can see this in the video ...

Jeep Wrangler Project: Sub Console Replacement
Jeep Wrangler Project: Sub Console Replacement Tube. Duration : 5.75 Mins.
I made this to hopefully help anybody out that is looking at replacing their stock console subwoofer in their Jeep Wrangler. I utilized JeepForum.com, as well as WranglerForum.com. I have to throw out a special shout out to Rogue, ArcherAce, USMCTJ, and several others whose pictures and directions directly assisted in this install. This replacement is not going to make your Wrangler shake, but in my opinion is a huge step up from the paper woofer (that chances are is already blown in your Jeep). I also have two JBL 10s in the back, so it doesn't compare, but if your not going to run additional woofers, you definitely need to do this upgrade. Also, even if you are going to run supplemental woofers you should do this for when you ride with the top off. I basically have to shut my subs in the back off, 'cause they are worthless in open air...most are; but the console sub still compliments the rest of the audio system while topless (my Jeep, not me...I'm a dude). You can purchase this sub at Amazon or eBay (around ), or can even go cheaper with a Pyramid (around ). Also worth noting, I did not use the existing amp, so I do not provide any help on wiring, but the two forums I listed above have ample info. I have two aftermarket amps, so I am running the console sub off of 2-channels (bridged) at around 100-watts RMS. Last note, I promise. Because I was running mine off of a bridged setup, I bought the 4-Ohm speaker, but it is also offered in a 2-Ohm, which you might ...
