In March of 2009 Blake Haxton (then a High School senior) contracted a rare form of bacteria called the "Flesh-Eating Disease". After two days at Riverside Hospital Blake was transferred to Ohio State Medical Center and placed on life support for all major organs. Blake would spend 3 months at Ohio State and endure over 20 surgeries and procedures including the amputation of both of his legs. Upon release from the Hospital in June Blake spent the summer at home and started at Ohio State, on time, in September. Blake Haxton is currently a Junior majoring in Finance. In thespirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)
